ACHA developed a series of prefabricated academic buildings. Built offsite in factories, the units can be arranged onsite to form single and multi-story buildings that can be built in a short period of time as may be required during a sudden surge in student registration. Buildings constructed in factories have long served in providing more efficient buildings than onsite construction. Workers and materials are subject to weather conditions when building onsite, resulting in poorer construction quality, damaged material, and slower production. Such inefficiencies result in higher production costs.
The one story unit shown here may be built as a classroom, dormitory, lecture hall, or for offices, using the same modular elements. High ceilings, cross-ventilation, and ample light from ribbon windows and skylights provide a suitable environment for academic purposes.
University / Prefab Structure
These single prefabricated units can be repeated horizontally and vertically to create a multi-story dormitory. In the following images, it is shown arranged to provide a public café at the ground floor and a student lounge at its top floor. Also shown is a single story dormitory for graduate students and visiting academics. Exterior veneers, like brick and glass U-channels at the exterior stairs, are applied onsite to the prefabricated units. The single story building has a green roof, providing a layer of insulation and protection to the building.
